Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic Trainee Advanced Surgical Practitioner to join a team assisting Consultants and Specialist Registrars in Orthopaedic, Elective, Trauma, and General Surgery procedures. The position may require working across various Trust sites, with North Tyneside General Hospital as the base. The post falls under Agenda for Change Annex 20, allowing progression to the next pay band upon competency completion.
Key responsibilities
- Supervision of junior members of staff, students and visitors.
- To provide nursing care to a caseload of patients and to provide verbal and written handovers to nursing colleagues and the multi disciplinary team.
- To provide on call cover as required to meet the needs of the service.
- May be required to work on other sites across the Trust.
- To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care under the direction of the senior nurse/SODP.
- To assist in the provision of nursing care and maintain high clinical standards.
Essential criteria
- 1st Level live NMC Registered General Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner qualification
- Evidence of ongoing practice development
- Registered Mentor. Mentorship Qualification or relevant equivalent qualification (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period).
Desirable criteria
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Recognised post graduate theatre/anaesthetic qualification
- Post Registration qualification in specialty
- Diploma/degree in nursing/or health related topic

This position may require Trust wide working across our Trust sites including Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, Hexham General Hospital, Wansbeck General Hospital and North Tyneside General Hospital.
