Role summary
The Respiratory Team at Whiston Hospital is seeking Band 5 registered nurses to provide high-quality care in an acute and fast-paced environment. This role offers the opportunity to gain experience in acute respiratory nursing, caring for patients with a wide range of thoracic conditions. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, supported by consultants and allied health professionals, and will be expected to rotate between day and night shifts.
Essential criteria
- 1st Level Registered Nurse (degree/diploma)
- Current NMC Registration
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Knowledge and Experience
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of NMC professional standards for practice contained within the code
- Experience of working in a clinical environment
- Understand requirements for NMC professional Revalidation
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
- An understanding of national, regional and local NHS issues
- Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to network and build relationships at all levels
- Effectively prioritises and co-ordinates own workload
- Ability to de-escalate complex situations
- Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non verbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Awareness of the need for confidentiality at all times
- Computer literacy e.g. experience of electronic patient record
- Other
- Frequent moderate effort for several short periods of time such as manual handling of patients and equipment
- Frequent concentration required for drug calculation and administration
- Dealing with frequent interruptions and competing demands

Job summary
The Respiratory Team within Whiston Hospital is looking for Band 5 registered nurses to deliver high quality care
Our units are both acute and fast paced environment. No two days are the same and staff are continuously facing new challenges and experiences that help them grow and develop within their role.
If you join our team, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in acute respiratory nursing. We provide a holistic car to the very acutely unwell and those with chronic respiratory illnesses who require frequent treatment. The wards treat a wide range of thoracic conditions. We care for patients with a variety of conditions, including lung cancer, asthma, COPD, TB, type 1 and type 2 respiratory failure, pleural effusions, pneumothorax, Tracheostomies and PE'S.
The ward team has excellent support from the Consultant Respiratory physicians.
We have strong relationships with our allied health professionals to provide excellent, safe care. Respiratory has a close working relationship with the Respiratory Nurse Specialists and palliative specialist nurses, to deliver high quality patient care.
You will work closely with the therapy team and have fantastic input from the wards pharmacist who will help you gain knowledge in the fiel
