Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced paediatric nurse to join the developing Paediatric Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service as a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse. The role involves leading and shaping the evolving service, supporting and developing the workforce, and driving improvements in patient flow and experience. The unit cares for children and young people aged 0-16 years referred from various departments. The successful candidate will be a motivated nurse with strong leadership and communication skills, coordinating the service and supporting junior colleagues.
Essential criteria
- Registered Children's Nurse (RSCN/RN Child) with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Significant post-registration experience in a paediatric acute care setting, with the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based, family-centred care for children and young people.
- Demonstrable leadership and supervisory experience, including coordinating a clinical area or shift, supporting junior staff and students, and contributing to the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in a Paediatric SDEC or managing a busy and changing shift
- Evidence of participation in quality improvement, clinical audit, research, or service development initiatives, with the ability to implement evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes.
- Competent in paediatric venepuncture and peripheral intravenous cannulation, or willing to undertake training and achieve competency within an agreed timeframe.
