Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Occupational Therapist to join a dynamic Older Adult Community Mental Health Team. The role involves managing a caseload of patients with functional and organic mental health needs, undertaking assessments, and implementing therapeutic interventions. You will work as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team, contributing to patient care from assessment to discharge. The team offers a supportive culture with opportunities for professional development and flexible working.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of patients with functional and organic mental health conditions from assessment to discharge.
- Develop skills to undertake full Psychosocial assessments, individual care plans, and risk assessments.
- Attend weekly MDT meetings to discuss allocations, complex cases, and engage in joint working.
- Complete functional assessments to support dementia diagnosis and goal setting.
- Assess for and fit equipment to support patient independence and safety.
- Provide leadership for junior staff through supervision and appraisal.
Essential criteria
- Documented evidence of continuing professional development.
- Significant post registration experience including experience within mental health.
- Minimum 1 year within/related specialty.
- Extensive clinical experience including individual and group work.
- Able to meet the travel requirements of the role.
- Specialist knowledge and application of occupational therapy assessments and interventions relevant to patient group.
- Knowledge/experience of audit procedures.
- Understanding of occupational therapy outcome measures
- Detailed knowledge of mental health legislation and current practice.
- Ability to challenge poor behaviour.
- A positive attitude and able to act on feedback.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English in both verbal and written formats.
- Ability to work autonomously and set own priorities.
- Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues.

- Diploma/degree in OT with HCPC Registration.

- Experience of a range of mental health settings.
- Supervision of support staff and students.
- Knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice.
- Knowledge and application of standardised assessments.
- Working knowledge and experience of the application of the Model of Human Occupation and/or other models of practice.
- Detailed knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and its application.
- Practice Education training gained within one year of appointment.

would like the opportunity to work within our Older Adult Community Mental
Health Team with patients that have functional and organic mental health needs.
The core working hours for our team is
Monday to Friday (9pm -5pm) and this specific post is for 37.5 hours per week,
however there is scope for flexible working.
You
will be part of an integrated team consisting of Community Mental Health
Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Consultant Psychiatrists, Junior Medics, a
Clinical Psychologist, Support Workers, a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner,
and administration staff. You will also be supported by the Team Manager who
offers a robust supervision and appraisal process.
We are a fun, engaging team where team members regularly support one
another, and we have fantastic team morale. We regularly participate in team
building exercises including our annual cooking competitions, and we have
always received a lot of positive feedback from students.
