Role summary
This role is for a part-time Senior Clinical or Counselling Psychologist or Psychological Therapist in Acute Inpatient Care at North View Hospital, Manchester. You will provide a clinical psychology service to adult inpatient wards, working within a dynamic team of psychologists. Responsibilities include developing team formulations, conducting psychological assessments, staff training, supervision, and delivering short evidence-based interventions. The role involves working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to meet the psychological needs of service users and staff, with an emphasis on trauma-informed care.
Essential criteria
- Good honors degree in psychology. Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS) Post-graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology (or equivalent for those trained before 1996) as accredited by the BPS Registered Clinical Psychologist or Practitioner Psychologist equivalent with the HCPC
Desirable criteria
- Further training in Evidence based approaches to complex mental health problems, including 3rd wave approaches, CAT, DBT, Hearing Voices Approaches (such as Talking with Voices, Compassion Focussed Therapy), Systemic approaches.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the life span and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across a wide range of care settings including community, outpatient and inpatient. This includes maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
- Experience of working with families Personal experience of mental health problems. Experience of facilitating groups Experience of working creatively to engage service users who may struggle with conventional therapeutic approaches.
- Previous experience of delivering structured psychological interventions to clients with severe and complex mental health problems. Experience in risk assessment, formulation and management particularly important. Experience in the application of cognitive-behavioural and other evidenced based approaches to people with severe and enduring mental health problems. Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience of working within a multicultural framework. Experience of working to promote equality and diversity/ cultural sensitivity. Experience of working with Asylum seekers, and others who may need translators.

Band 7/8a, 30 hours per week.
We are delighted to invite applications for a part time senior psychologist for North View hospital - Manchester adult inpatient services.
Working as part of a team of a dynamic team; 6 qualified and 3 assistant psychologists you will provide a clinical psychology service to the 6 adult inpatient wards and 1 psychiatric intensive care unit in North Manchester. You will be well supported by and work closely with the service's principal and consultant inpatient psychologists to deliver clinical psychology services to the inpatient wards where you will be based.
Working in these fast paced services, your role will be varied and stimulating and will include developing team formulations to support care, completing psychological assessments, staff training and supervision and delivery of short evidence based psychological interventions. You will oversee the work of the ward assistant psychologist in delivering group and structured individual sessions.
