Role summary
North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Band 7 Midwife/General Obstetric Sonographer to join their expanding Maternity Ultrasound Service. This role involves working across Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Peterborough City Hospital, with an opportunity to shape services for a new hospital planned in 2027-2028. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality obstetric ultrasound services, undertake various scanning types, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. They will also provide clinical leadership and contribute to service development and quality improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality obstetric ultrasound services across all stages of pregnancy.
- Undertake routine, anomaly, and specialist scanning, with development opportunities in multiple pregnancy and complex obstetric scanning.
- Work collaboratively with obstetric, fetal medicine, and maternity colleagues to support safe and effective clinical pathways.
- Provide clinical leadership, support, and mentorship to midwifery and sonography staff.
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement across both Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke sites.
- Maintain accurate records and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, safety, and patient care.
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife
- Postgraduate Diploma/ Certificate in Medical Ultrasound or equivalent
- Must show evidence of CPD in ultrasound and ensure their practice is evidence based
- Keen to support the Maternity Services Strategy, with particular regard to the quality of the patient journey
- Must have the relevant skills, knowledge and experience in the full range of required US examinations with demonstration of competent reporting skills in 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester
- TV experience
- Independent reporting of scan findings
- Excellent communication skills: written/oral/non-verbal
- Able to work as part of a small team in a potentially high pressured and emotive environment
Desirable criteria
- Degree Level Education
- NT accreditation
- Experience of Fetal Doppler assessment
- Evidence of attendance on a counselling / breaking bad news course
- Experience of using GAP pathways
- Experience of early pregnancy scanning
