Role summary

This role is for a passionate and driven Deputy Financial Management Accountant to join the Finance Team in Research and Innovation at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The post-holder will support the Financial Management Accountant in providing financial management advice to Research & Innovation, assisting managers in achieving financial objectives. Key responsibilities include approving project costings, contracts, and completing financial returns, as well as business planning and delivering accurate financial information. Key responsibilities

  • Support the Financial Management Accountant in providing financial management support and advice to Research & Innovation (R&I).
  • Assist R&I Managers in achieving their financial objectives.
  • Support the Financial Management Accountant in approving R&I project costings and contracts.
  • Support the Financial Management Accountant in the completion of project financial returns.
  • Contribute to Business Planning and the provision of accurate and timely financial information.
  • Manage a small team.

Essential criteria

  • CCAB or CIMA qualified, or qualified by experience in final stages of CCAB or CIMA qualification
  • Understanding of the NHS, its infrastructure and partner organisations
  • Understanding of NHS finance and accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of financial management and budgetary management
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a finance environment.
  • Management accounts experience, including dealing with budget holders
  • Costing of grant applications or similar equivalent costing experience
  • Staff management.

Desirable criteria

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent
  • Demonstrable post qualification development and achievement of CPD.
  • Working knowledge of Centros Financial Ledger System.
  • Understanding of research grant funding processes.
  • Experience of working in a financial management role with an Acute Trust.
  • Post qualification experience.
