Key responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care independently and safely across all areas of ED.
- Carry out initial patient assessments, maintain and update care plans, and escalate concerns.
- Administer, document, and safely manage medicines in line with Trust policy.
- Recognise and respond to deteriorating patients, including initiating basic life support.
- Use de-escalation skills with potentially aggressive patients and provide clear information to patients.
- Support induction of new staff and act as role model/mentor to students and HCAs.
Essential criteria
- Current NMC Registration
- Awareness of current professional nursing issues
- Awareness of current A&E issues
- Health Promotion and patient information giving
- Able to work with minimal supervision
- Flexible shifts and internal rotation: To work in other areas of the department and Trust when required.
- Ability to participate in the development and maintenance of a positive learning environment
- Able to work effectively as a team member
- Leadership skills
Desirable criteria
- Mentorship in Practice course
- Intermediate Life Support course
- Evidence of successful ED clinical placement during training
- Six months medical or surgical ward experience
- IT skills
- Phlebotomy and cannulation

In this role, you'll deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across all areas of the department, carrying out assessments, planning and evaluating care, and responding to a wide range of clinical presentations. You'll develop advanced clinical skills including triage, cannulation, wound care, emergency response and support with minor procedures.
You'll work closely with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team, communicating clearly in a pressured environment while maintaining professionalism and compassion.
