Role summary
This is an opportunity for an aspiring psychologist to work as an Assistant Psychologist (Band 4) within the multidisciplinary Specialist Adult Team in Eastbourne. The role involves delivering psychologically informed interventions, supporting psychological assessments, and assisting with clinically related administration and project work. The successful candidate will work with people with severe and enduring mental illness, their families, and carers, focusing on recovery. The team has a good record of developing Assistant Psychologists for further training.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver psychologically informed interventions such as behavioural activation, graded exposure, trauma stabilisation, voices clinic and emotion regulation in both individual and group settings.
- Support psychological assessment and MDT formulation by collating information from the Electronic Patient Record and attending meetings and appointments alongside a psychological professional.
- Learn skills in psychometric testing and cognitive assessment.
- Support the team with clinically related administration, database maintenance, collation of outcomes measures, teaching, evaluation, audit and project work.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with people with severe and enduring mental illness, their families and carers, to support recovery.
Essential criteria
- Honours degree at 2:1 or above in Psychology, or equivalent. Eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartership with the BPS
- Relevant clinical and research skills
- Experience of working as part of a team
- Basic knowledge of databases, research skills and methodology
- Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a health context
- An understanding of psychology applied to health care
- To be able to communicate effectively under pressure and maintain a high degree of professionalism at all times
- To assimilate complex information and use reflective/analytic thinking to apply psychological perspectives in a healthcare setting
- Ability to be flexible and cope with multiple demands
- Capable of using initiative, to organise work and to work independently and know when to ask for and use supervision
Desirable criteria
- Further post graduate training in a relevant area of Professional Psychology, health and social care practice, and/or research design and analysis
- Prior experience of working with Adults with complex needs in an NHS or mental health setting
