Role summary

This role is for a motivated and experienced healthcare professional to join the Urgent and Emergency Care service as a Trainee Emergency Care Practitioner. You will work alongside doctors and other practitioners to deliver high-quality care to patients with minor illnesses and injuries. The position involves independent clinical reasoning and decision-making, covering assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and referral across three sites. Successful candidates will be supported to achieve the necessary qualifications to become a Qualified ECP.

Key responsibilities

  • Work as a trainee ECP within a busy Minor Injury and Illness Unit and Urgent Treatment Centre, seeing, treating, and independently discharging patients.
  • Collaborate with Senior EP colleagues to deliver a high quality, effective, and sustainable service.
  • Undertake a training post, supported to complete a Minor Injury and Minor Illness University course and an EP portfolio.
  • Work in good partnership with the multi-disciplinary team, participating in an annual teaching and education program.
  • Be accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct and contribute to corporate objectives.
  • Utilise advanced history taking and physical assessment skills to obtain patient history and undertake examinations.

Essential criteria

  • oCurrent Professional Registration NMC/HCPC
  • oEvidence of continuing professional development
  • oTeaching and assessment qualification and is currently teaching sessions.
  • oPILS/ILS course
  • oStudy at level 6 (degree / diploma)
  • oRecent post registration experience in Emergency Care
  • oExperience in conflict management
  • oExperience of mentoring and supporting junior staff
  • oA knowledgeable practitioner with the ability to critically analyse research and apply to the practice setting
  • oEvidence of knowledge/ understanding of collaborative practice and the ECP role
  • oA sound knowledge of professional policies and procedures
  • oKnowledge of clinical governance and a commitment to clinical supervision and staff development
  • oEvidence of Knowledge/understanding of collaborative practice and the ECP role

Job summary

We are seeking motivated and experienced healthcare professionals to join our team as Trainee Emergency Care Practitioners, within the Urgent and Emergency Care service.

Working alongside Doctors, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, and fellow ECP's/ENP's you will play a key role in delivering high quality timely care to patient presenting with minor illness and injury. This is a fast paced, independent role, requiring excellent clinical reasoning and descision-making skills.

The Emergency Practitioner within the Urgent and Emergency Care service (UEC) will use specialist knowledge and skills to independently provide healthcare to a select group of patients with minor illnesses or injuries and develop a 'no wait philosophy' and support 'see and treat' streams .

The Emergency Practitioner is a highly skilled practitioner with a wealth of knowledge and experience and accountable for the total episode of care of the patient including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and/or referral and discharge, administering medication under the Trust Patient Group Directions.
