Role summary
This role is for a compassionate Registered Nurse to join the Clinical Care Team at Haven House Children's Hospice. You will provide high-quality, holistic, and family-centred nursing care to children with life-limiting conditions, both at the hospice and in their homes. The role involves leading shifts, supporting the wider team, and developing advanced clinical skills in palliative care. You will work flexibly, primarily weekends during term time and any day during school holidays.
Key responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised nursing care.
- Deliver nursing care within the Hospice at Home and Day Care services.
- Administer and manage medicines safely in accordance with policy.
- Provide complex nursing care, including tracheostomy care, ventilation, and gastrostomy care.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and support Healthcare Support Workers.
- Maintain NMC registration and engage in continuing professional development.
Essential criteria
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Experience caring for children with complex healthcare needs
- Experience working within a children's hospice, community children's nursing or paediatric setting
- Competent in medicines administration
- Ability to teach and support parents, carers and Healthcare Support Workers
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good IT skills, including electronic patient records
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage competing demands
- Ability to work autonomously within professional scope of practice
- Knowledge of safeguarding children procedures
- Understanding of infection prevention and control
- Understanding of health and safety responsibilities
- Flexible approach to working across Hospice at Home and Day Care services
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, or the ability to travel independently across the hospice catchment area
- Registered Nurse (Child, Adult or Learning Disability) with current NMC registration
- 1 year post registration experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions
- Competent in gastrostomy, nasogastric (NG) tube and stoma care
- Experience of tracheostomy care, emergency tracheostomy management, invasive ventilation and non-invasive ventilation (CPAP/BiPAP)
