Role summary

This Optometrist role involves providing core optometric and ophthalmologic care, including disease treatment and management, to a high volume of patients within a multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will work independently across hospital optometry, utilising specialist equipment and communicating complex information to patients. It requires a high level of professional responsibility and continuous development of specialist knowledge. This is a fixed-term/secondment position for 11 months.

Key responsibilities

  • Work independently across all core elements of hospital optometry.
  • Utilise specialist ophthalmic instruments and complex equipment.
  • Work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of patient care.
  • Carry out delegated administrative responsibilities to support the Optometry Department.
  • Communicate complex condition-related and sensitive issues to patients, providing counselling and advice.
  • Ensure all administrative tasks associated with patients are completed in a timely manner.

  • Experience of managing paediatric refraction cases

Job summary

The post holder will work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team within Ophthalmology in order to routinely provide both core optometric and ophthalmologic care, specifically disease treatment/management, to high volumes of patients. Optometrists are registered with the General Optical Council (GOC) and have a high level of clinical training, specialist knowledge and skill. The role demands a high level of individual professional responsibility, efficiency within both core and clinical optometry and good communication and working relationship with the multi-disciplinary team.

This post is a fixed term/secondment for 11 months until 30th of June 2027 due to funding. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.
