Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and skilled Band 6 physiotherapist to join the Trauma & Orthopaedics Physiotherapy Team at UCLH. The role involves providing advanced musculoskeletal physiotherapy services to trauma and elective orthopaedic patients, including assessment, treatment, and discharge planning. You will also contribute to the Virtual Fracture Clinic and supervise junior staff and students. The position is a 12-month fixed-term contract, working 28 hours per week, including weekend days and public holidays on a 7-day rota.
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy
- HCPC Registration as a Physiotherapist
- Awareness of current evidence pertaining to physiotherapy interventions within the acute orthopaedic setting
Desirable criteria
- Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
- Member of a relevant orthopaedic Specialist Interest Group
- Experience of working as a qualified physiotherapist within the NHS, including orthopaedics and 3 or more of: Respiratory, Surgery, General Medicine, Neurology, Musculoskeletal Outpatients, Care of the Elderly, Rehabilitation
- Experience of working as a Band 6 physiotherapist in an NHS acute inpatient orthopaedic setting
- Experience of working as a Band 6 physiotherapist in an NHS musculoskeletal outpatients setting
- SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Evidence of a clear understanding of the role of the Physiotherapist in an acute orthopaedic setting
- Evidence of clear understanding of core physiotherapy skills and processes
- Evidence of sound clinical knowledge and well established assessment and treatment skills
- Demonstrates a flexible approach to service delivery needs
- Evidence of effective discharge planning skills, including liaising with MDT colleagues and appropriate support agencies
- Evidence of an understanding of multidisciplinary issues and knowledge of the skills required to work efficiently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, including prioritisation and delegation
- Competent IT skills

- Ability to frequently cope with working in a stressful environment and with intense concentration for frequent periods throughout the day

- A good command of both written and spoken English

The Trauma & Orthopaedic service at UCLH is a busy department, working over different sites; Trauma Orthopaedics in the UCLH main building and Elective Orthopaedics in the new elective centre at Grafton Way Building. The team is led by over 20 consultants who specialise in a range of elective and trauma work. Currently UCLH provides first-class acute and specialist services across 8 sites. As part of our continued vision to deliver top-quality patient care, excellent education and word-class research, UCLH will soon be increasing the provision of surgical services by opening a new hospital.
