Role summary

This role is for a compassionate Registered Nurse to provide specialist palliative and end-of-life care within Dorothy House Hospice's In-Patient Unit. You will assess patient needs, deliver high-quality, person-centred nursing care, and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. The position focuses on complex symptom management and supporting patients and families through their end-of-life journey, with opportunities for professional development.

Key responsibilities

  • Assessing patients' physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs, developing individualised plans of care alongside patients and their families
  • Delivering and evaluating high-quality nursing care using evidence-based practice
  • Working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care from admission through to discharge
  • Supporting patients and families through complex symptom management and end of life care planning
  • Taking charge of the clinical environment when appropriate and supporting colleagues across the nursing team
  • Contributing to clinical audit, quality improvement, education and service development activities

Essential criteria

  • * First Level Registered Nurse with active registration
  • * Experience delivering evidence-based nursing care
  • * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when supporting patients with complex care needs
  • * Demonstrating attributes that reflect care, compassion and willingness to support patients and their families through their end of life journey
  • * Experience of medicines management and working effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • * Experience contributing to quality improvement, audit or service improvement activities

Desirable criteria

  • * Teaching experience or relevant teaching qualification
  • * Experience using clinical systems and Microsoft Office applications, including SystmOne
  • * Knowledge of, or experience within, palliative care and end of life care services
