Role summary
This role is for a highly motivated and experienced Band 7 Specialist Nurse to join the Haemoglobinopathies Service, providing expert care and support to individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease and thalassaemia. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care, act as a key resource for patients and healthcare professionals, and provide specialist advice and education. The role includes clinical leadership responsibilities, promoting evidence-based practice, and contributing to service development and quality improvement. You will help shape the future delivery of haemoglobinopathy services, ensuring care remains responsive to patient needs.
Essential criteria
- First level Registered Adult nurse (with the NMC)
- Relevant educational/training qualification/certificate/experience
- Leadership or mentorship course
Desirable criteria
- Master's level education or equivalent experience
- Qualified non-medical prescriber
- Knowledge & Experience
- Experience at band 6 or above in a related speciality
- Experience managing patients with sickle cell disease and thalassaemia
- Experience of acute sickle cell crisis management
- Experience in pain management Evidence of management of change, clinical leadership, and development of services
- Experience of working in the community
- Experience participating in audits and clinical research
- Other
- Ability to travel independently to all sites across NCL
- A flexible approach to service delivery with ability to work evenings and weekends on occasions where required

Band 7 Community Adult Haemoglobinopathies Nurse Specialist We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Specialist Nurse to join our Haemoglobinopathies Service, providing expert care and support to individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease and thalassaemia.
Working within a well-established multidisciplinary team, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care and collaborate with colleagues across the organisation and specialist haemoglobinopathy network to ensure effective care coordination and positive patient outcomes.
As a senior specialist nurse, you will act as a key resource for patients, families and healthcare professionals, providing specialist advice, education and support throughout the patient pathway. You will build strong therapeutic relationships, empowering patients to manage their condition and participate in decisions about their care.
The role includes clinical leadership responsibilities, promoting evidence-based practice, supporting colleagues and contributing to service development, quality improvement and innovation. You will help shape the future delivery of haemoglobinopathy services while ensuring care remains responsive to the needs of patients and families.
