Role summary
This role involves providing a high standard physiotherapy service to acute stroke and neurology patients, including a seven-day service. The post holder will assess and treat their own caseload, which may include complex presentations, and maintain autonomous records. They will also assist Team Leaders in planning and delivering the physiotherapy service and deputise when necessary. Supervision and education of physiotherapy students and junior staff are also key responsibilities.
Key responsibilities
- Provide a high standard physiotherapy service to acute stroke and neurology clinical areas, including a seven-day service.
- Assess and treat own caseload of patients, who may have complex presentations, and maintain own records as an autonomous practitioner.
- Assist Team Leaders in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the Physiotherapy Service.
- Deputise for the Team Leaders when necessary.
- Supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students and more junior staff.
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable Post graduate experience in core rotations: Neurology or Neurosurgery, Acute Respiratory, Orthopaedics/MSK
- Demonstrable experience of teaching
- Proven evidence of contribution to clinical education / supervision of less experienced staff, students or assistants
- Demonstrable experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Degree (BSc Hons Physiotherapy) or equivalent.
- HCPC registration
- Attendance at additional relevant professional courses
- Professional manner
- Demonstrates effective and adaptable communication skills including written and verbal
- Proven evidence of using initiative.
- Clear and concise speech/communication
- Ability to prioritise workload
- Ability to recognise own limitations and act on them
- Problem solver
- Proven evidence of personal leadership
- Demonstrates an ability to respond effectively to complex, emotional or challenging situations
Desirable criteria
- Previous demonstrable experience of working on a stroke unit or neurology ward
- Demonstrable experience working in Stroke rehabilitation or within the stroke pathway
- Clinical educator
- Demonstrable audit experience
- Proven evidence of service improvement
- MSc relevant to the area
- Leadership qualification
- Demonstrable experience of deputising for senior

Job summary
