Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 6 Children's Community Nurse to join a supportive team. The role involves providing high-quality, child and family-centred care to children and young people with acute, chronic, complex, and life-limiting needs in their homes and community settings. You will work autonomously and collaboratively, delivering specialist clinical care, coordinating care with other professionals, and contributing to safeguarding processes. The position also includes supporting junior staff, service development, and participating in an end-of-life on-call rota.
Essential criteria
- Registered Children's Nurse (RSCN/RCN)
- Holds degree in relevant health related subject
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Willingness to undertake further education in relation to children's community nursing
- Knowledge & Experience
- Significant experience of children's nursing post registration (RNC)
- Knowledge and experience of working with children who have complex, chronic and palliative care needs
- Experience of planning, managing and co-ordinating programmes of care in collaboration with other allied health, social, education and volunteer agencies
- Ability to recognise, take appropriate action and contribute to child/adult protection process in order to safeguard children and young people
- Understanding of mental capacity act and deprivation of liberties as it applies to children and young people
- Ability to work in a flexible manner and prioritise according to the demands of the situation, time and workload management.
- Experience of teaching clinical skills and health promotion to empower families, CYP and their carers
- Experience of End of Life care and willingness to develop skills
- Proficient clinical assessment and care planning skills
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of professional nursing issues and the pillars of clinical governance including experience of audit
- Skills and Abilities
- Ability to delegate skills appropriately including competency and capability assessment
- Experience of working with multi-disciplinary team and inter-agency working
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation and national guidelines
- Ability to organise and respond efficiently to complex and sensitive information
- Demonstrates leadership/management abilities and willingness to develop these
- Ability to travel as required to meet the needs of the service
- Evidence of the implementation of risk assessments
- Flexibility/adaptability to be able to work 24-hour shift pattern
- Valid driving licence
- Working knowledge of IT and new technologies
