Role summary

Key responsibilities
- Provide specialist assessment to adults with speech, language and communication needs.
- Create speech and language therapy treatment plans, support, care plans and interventions.
- Implement evidence-based practice, reviewing and evaluating therapy using outcome measures.
- Provide advice to other professionals regarding the management of clients with communication and dysphagia needs.
- Attend and contribute to MDT and clinical team meetings.
- Complete report writing and administrative tasks relevant to the role.
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech & Language Therapy degree or equivalent
- RCSLT and HCPC Registered Speech & Language Therapist
- Experience in working in a health or social care provider organisation as a qualified or student Speech & Language Therapist
- Relevant SLT student placement (e.g. ALD, ASC, Special School, secure setting)
- Knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to the client group)
- Clinical reasoning skills
- Able to work with service users who present with a degree of challenge
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Clinical/ technical skills for assessment techniques and interventions, i.e. integrated listening, observational and interpretative skills
- Well organised
- Highly motivated & able to engage with service users & carers to improve outcomes
- Ability to work independently and collectively
- Reflective practitioner
Desirable criteria
- NQ communication competencies completed
- Dysphagia competencies completed
- Signs and symbols knowledge
- Can discuss issues involved in managing a caseload
- Experience of delivering Learning and development opportunities for others

Job summary

The Speech and Language Team (SaLT) work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering a high-quality specialist services to individuals with Learning Disabilities.
This role will work across Learning Disabilities to meet the communication and dysphagia needs of this client group. You will be a person-centred SaLT who is committed to advocating for and meeting the needs of Adults with a Learning Disability.
You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide specialist assessment to adults with speech, language and communication needs. You will need to be a skilled assessor who can create speech and language therapy treatment plans support, care plans and interventions that are co-produced with the people you support. You will use clear evidence-based practice to meet the person's needs, with identified clinical effectiveness and outcome measures. You will need excellent communication skills that are adaptable to each person's needs.
