Role summary
This role is for a Registered Dental Nurse at Liverpool University Dental Hospital. The successful candidate will provide high-quality nursing care, support undergraduate and postgraduate students during dental procedures, and assist with various clinical tasks. Responsibilities include preparing materials, maintaining cleanliness, assisting with medical emergencies, and managing stock. The position requires registration with the General Dental Council and a recognised dental nurse qualification.
Key responsibilities
- Provide the highest quality of nursing care to all staff and students.
- Support undergraduate and postgraduate students during dental procedures.
- Prepare filling materials, impression materials, instruments, equipment, dressings and syringes.
- Ensure the treatment area is clean and tidy, adhering to infection prevention and control procedures.
- Assist with medical emergencies in line with GDC scope of practice.
- Maintain stock, clear cupboards, and check expiry dates on bottles, re-ordering as necessary.
Essential criteria
- Empathy with all patient groups, including those with special needs
- A willingness to accept that flexibility is required to meet the changing needs of the NHS
- Excellent interpersonal oral and written skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers and staff at all levels
- Basic IT skills
- Ability to prioritise tasks
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Registrable Dental Nurse qualification or NVQ Level III in Oral Healthcare
- Must be registered with the General Dental Council as a Dental Care Professional
- Evidence of maintenance/updated relevant Continued Professional Development
- Demonstrable recent experience of working as part of a dental team
Desirable criteria
- Pro-active approach to team building
- Post qualification certificate(s), eg Radiology, Sedation, Orthodontics, Oral Health
- Further qualifications in basic first aid, health & safety, manual handling
- Experience in a hospital setting
- Interest in oral health promotion
- Up to date knowledge of the NHS as it relates to dentistry
- Knowledge of new strategies in dentistry
