Role summary
This role involves working as a Cultural Safety Midwife to reduce inequalities in maternity outcomes and experiences for Black, Asian, and other ethnic minority women. The post holder will engage with multidisciplinary teams and community groups to co-produce solutions, gather information, report findings, and raise awareness. Key responsibilities include leading the cultural safety agenda, influencing practice, and providing education and training to staff. The aim is to ensure safe, personalised, and culturally responsive care for diverse communities.
Essential criteria
- NMC registered Midwife educated to degree level or higher
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
- Evidence of study/CPD within the area or EDI and/or cultural safety awareness.
- Working knowledge of the challenges and priorities around improving outcomes for Black, Asian and other ethnic minority women accessing maternity care
- Significant relevant experience at Band 6
- Experience working with multi-agency and multi-disciplinary teams supporting vulnerable women
- Ability to undertake audit and service evaluation
- Experience of delivering training and MDT education
- High level of personal motivation
- Decision making skills
- Demonstrate a positive and solution focused attitude

Job summary
The Cultural Safety Midwife will work to reduce inequality in maternity outcomes and experiences of Black, Asian and other women from an Ethnic Minority background, through engagement and co- production with other members of the maternity and multidisciplinary team, and community groups and service users representing these populations.
The post holder will have responsibility for gathering information, reporting, raising awareness, training and working towards solutions in these areas as they relate to both service users and staff within maternity services.
