Role summary
This role is for a Band 6 Neonatal Sister/Charge Nurse within the Neonatal Service at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide clinical assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for sick and pre-term babies and their families. They will also provide expert advice, act as a resource for staff, and take a lead role in a specific service area. The position requires excellent communication and leadership skills to support junior staff and enhance quality of care.
Key responsibilities
- Take charge of Unit on a shift by shift basis.
- Ensure effective communication across the nursing team, with other disciplines and agencies.
- Provide clinical leadership and supervision to nursing and medical staff.
- Identify and lead on a specific service area.
- Manage and effectively directs workload.
- Provide empathetic communication with stressed or bereaved families.
Essential criteria
- R.N. ADULT/CHILD
- Qualified in Speciality (QIS)
- Current NMC registration
- Experience of working in Neonatal Care
- Safeguarding level 3 training
- Ability to work autonomously & as part of a team.
- Evidence of ability to effectively co-ordinate a team
- Evidence of continual professional development
- An understanding of the need of confidentiality awareness at all times.
- Updated research and evidence-based practice
- Knowledge of Health & Safety issues
- Data Protection
- Awareness of legislation relevant to the post
- Demonstrate ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care.
- Organisational abilities
- Appropriate IT skills
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of at least 12 months post QIS experience
- Supporting learners in practice course
- Able to demonstrate awareness of or evidence of clinical governance.
- Investigation training
- Willing to attend relevant Neonatal Courses
- Coaching skills
- Evidence of further learning
- Awareness of implementing change and willingness to learn new skills

Job summary
Stockport NHS Trust has been awarded funding from the Neo Natal Network to allow the expansion of our neonatal team. Therefore we have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Band 6 on a 12 month secondment within the Neonatal Service at Stockport NHS foundation trust.
We are looking for dynamic and highly motivated individuals who can demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills, provide support and education for junior staff and are passionate about improving patient safety and the patient experience and providing leadership and management of the team on a shift and work closely with the Senior Sisters, Lead Nurses and Matron in developing the service and enhancing quality of care delivery.
