Role summary
This role is for a Senior Biomedical Scientist and Training Lead within the Cellular Pathology department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist knowledge and technical expertise to aid in the training and development of technical staff. They will manage day-to-day operations in a section of the laboratory, ensuring high-quality service and adherence to policies. The role involves maintaining competence, developing training documentation, and overseeing staff training and competence assessments.
Key responsibilities
- Provide and co-ordinate specialist clinical technical services, including research and audit samples.
- Undertake day-to-day management of a section within the laboratory under line manager direction.
- Provide necessary training and supervision to staff within the section.
- Maintain, monitor, and develop documentation for competence assessment, including training matrix and ProfilerLIve systems.
- Ensure test procedures are carried out according to SOPs and assess junior staff competence.
- Oversee Mandatory training to achieve departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Essential criteria
- Bsc Biomedical Science or equivalent
- Msc Biomedical Science or equivalent
- Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Substantial post HCPC Registration experience in an NHS clinical Cellular Pathology department
Desirable criteria
- IBMS Certificate in Expert Practice in Training
- Evidence of previous training lead experience

Assist with managing the day-to-day operations of a specific area of a laboratory service, at the hub or spoke laboratory, as an integral element of Pathology. To be responsible for providing specialist knowledge, alongside technical expertise to aid in the training and development of technical staff.
