Role summary
This role involves joining the maternity clinical governance team to enhance patient safety and quality of care within Maternity and Neonatal Services. The post holder will manage safety and quality processes related to incidents and risks, ensuring compliance with clinical governance standards. They will coordinate incident investigations, disseminate learning, and collaborate with various stakeholders to drive the governance agenda. This is a full-time, permanent Band 7 position requiring in-depth knowledge of clinical governance.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate the delivery of the Trust Risk Management Strategy across the Division, maintaining compliance with clinical governance and patient safety standards.
- Coordinate and complete investigations into incident reports, managing investigation processes and report collation.
- Coordinate and support the leadership of the clinical governance agenda and line management of the clinical governance and risk facilitation team.
- Collate and approve Specialty and Divisional assurance reports and action plans.
- Support clinical governance risk monthly dashboard compliance and respond to reduced compliance.
- Coordinate and disseminate learning from incidents, risk assessments, complaints, and claims, ensuring actions are followed up and completed.
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife
- Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent experience relating to the role
- Relevant experience in an acute hospital setting
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Experience and success in supporting and delivering the clinical governance agenda including experience in risk management.
- Experience of undertaking risk assessments
- Experience of completing investigations and understanding of PSIRF application to learning from incidents.
- Knowledge and experience in action plan progression
- Experience of management and leadership within healthcare
- Significant post midwifery registration experience
- An awareness, knowledge and experience of Clinical Governance and Risk Management
- Knowledge of Databases, MS Word and Excel
- Experience in writing reports
- Experience in working with incident reporting systems
- Experience of training and educating staff
- Experience of undertaking risk assessments and contributing to the local risk register
- Experience in dealing with sensitive situations with tact, diplomacy and professionalism
- Experience in working with a broad range of staff
Desirable criteria
- Completion of a leadership and development programme equivalent to Band 6 Programme; or Level 4 ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management)
- Teaching / Assessing Qualification
- Qualification in Risk Management or equivalent experience
- Experience and knowledge of the 'Perinatal Mortality Review Tool' (PMRT) collaboration led by MBRRACE
- Knowledge and experience of the Clinical Negligence Scheme (CNST)
- Ability to analyse clinical issues/problems, identify necessary action and make recommendations and follow these through
- Datix experience
- Experience of organising meetings and taking minute/notes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role CQC
