Role summary
This role is for an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse (RNMH) to join the Integrated Mental Health and Substance Misuse team at HMP Stafford. The post holder will manage a caseload, provide evidence-based interventions, and undertake assessments and reviews for service users within the prison. It involves working within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-quality mental health care in a custodial environment, applying trauma-informed principles and knowledge of the Mental Health Act.
Key responsibilities
- Responsible for the management of own caseload, including assessment, monitoring, and provision of specialist nursing interventions to individual prisoners with secondary mental health needs.
- Provide a range of interventions across the integrated offender health model, including primary care and wellbeing interventions, and support substance misuse and primary care teams.
- Act upon referrals from Prison based Primary Care staff and external teams, providing assessment, implementation, and development of care programmes.
- Work within policies relating to vulnerable adults and mental capacity, and within the Mental Health Act 1983 as deployed in the criminal justice service.
- Ensure implementation of all local, regional, and national policies, procedures, and guidelines pertinent to staff within the area of responsibility.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding all dissemination of information and records.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register.
- Evidence of recent CPD and compliance with NMC revalidation.
- Skills to include EMDR therapy
- Experience of delivering NICE recommended psychological interventions and have post registration training in one of these interventions; DBT/CBT/EMDR
- Experience of working with people with mental health problems using a stepped care approach, demonstrate knowledge from previous experience.
