Role summary
This role involves assessing care needs, developing and evaluating care programs within a multidisciplinary team, and supporting senior and junior staff to ensure high-quality patient care. The post holder will work clinically, including unsocial hours, in all areas of the Emergency Department and will be responsible for managing a team of nurses and driving change through link roles. The ideal candidate is an inspirational nurse who enjoys teamwork and making a difference to both the team and patients.
Key responsibilities
- Demonstrate advanced clinical expertise in the care of patients receiving emergency or clinically urgent treatment.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of patients on an ongoing basis, coordinating care.
- Manage the clinical workload effectively, ensuring care is prioritized appropriately.
- Assist the Team Leader with managing an identified group of staff, monitoring their clinical skills development.
- Ensure appropriate prioritization of emergency department patients and act as a resource to others.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records and ensure safe custody and administration of drugs.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse with UK NMC Pin
- SSSA/Mentorship Training
- TILS 1&2/ATLS Observer
- 24 Months of acute setting experience
- 12 months of ED experience
- Knowledge of departmental flow and referral pathway
- Cannulation and Phlebotomy
- Mature and professional attitude; enthusiastic and positive
- Displays compassion and understanding
- Able to communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues in complex or sensitive situations
- Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Advanced communication skills and leadership skills
- Ability to prioritise and manage workload
- Basic counselling skills, including ability to understand the needs of the bereaved

JOB SUMMARY:
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs of care with the multidisciplinary team and patients' families.
As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse you will be required to support the senior and junior team in ensuring the needs of our patients are met through the delivery of high-quality care. The role involves working as part of a large multidisciplinary team including the ED medical team, clinical practice educators safeguarding, mental health liaison team and clinical specialties. The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse works clinically including unsocial hours and will be expected to work competently in all areas of the Emergency Department as well as being able to independently take charge of them.
The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse will assist their Team leader with managing their own team of nurses and ensuring they meet their potential. You will also be responsible for link roles giving you the opportunity to drive change and improve standards.
