Role summary
This role is for a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker in a newly redesigned Children and Young People's Mental Health Inpatient Unit (CAMHS). The unit is reopening in Autumn 2026 and focuses on recovery-focused care for young people with acute mental health needs. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting young people's day-to-day care, wellbeing, and recovery. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a modern, high-quality inpatient service.
Key responsibilities
- Support young people in their day-to-day care, wellbeing and recovery
- Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with young people
- Undertake observations, record and report changes in mental or physical health
- Support the delivery of individual and group therapeutic activities
- Assist with personal care when required, maintaining dignity and privacy
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support care plans
Essential criteria
- Good general education
- NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience
- Experience of working with mental health needs in a paid or voluntary capacity
- Experience of working collaboratively i.e. with colleagues, wider teams, service users etc
- An understanding of confidentiality
- Good communication skills with a good command of written and spoken English language
- Ability to exchange factual information with service users using, reassurance, tact, empathy
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, be flexible around shift work and have good communication skills
- Ability to know when to escalate concerns
- Ability to know when to seek support from team members when working individually within a service user group or in a 1:1 setting
- Basic IT skills
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work as an effective team member
- An understanding of the principles of equality diversity and inclusion in relation to staff and service users
- Ability to deal with emotional and distressing circumstances, i.e. working with service users who may share difficult personal circumstances

- Experience of working within mental health services
