Role summary

This role provides dedicated leadership for neonatal governance activities, ensuring safe, high-quality neonatal care. It involves coordinating clinical audits, investigating patient safety incidents, and disseminating learning to improve practice. The post holder will develop and review neonatal guidelines, represent the service at governance meetings, and strengthen organisational assurance. This position supports staff in delivering excellent, family-centred neonatal care.

Essential criteria

  • Experience as a senior neonatal nurse at band 6 or higher
  • Educated to a First level degree (level 6 or above)
  • Current NLS certification
  • Human factors/ route course analysis training or a willing to undertake
  • Safeguarding level 3 training
  • Knowledge of clinical governance
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Experience of guideline development
  • Current clinical experience in acute hospital.
  • Evidence of implementing change in clinical practice
  • Experience in audit and implementing evidence based care
  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
  • Ability to assess the work of the team, provide clear constructive feedback to the team in order to maintain and improve performance
  • A good understanding of current issues relating to the NHS
  • Ability to evaluate effectiveness of learning activities and identifies how it could be improved
  • Ability to delegate authority to people and monitor them against required outcomes
  • Experience of providing formal teaching development to staff / colleagues
  • Qualifications and Professional Training
  • Registered Nurse or Midwife with current NMC registration
  • Demonstrable CPD
  • Post registration Qualification in Neonatology
