Role summary

This role involves working as an Assistant Psychologist within the Children with Additional Needs (CAN DWR) and Intensive Positive Behavioural Support (iPBS) teams. You will promote the emotional health and well-being of children and young people with developmental delay or disability and their families. The postholders will support outreach, develop and deliver workshops, and provide psychological support alongside a Clinical Psychologist. This is a fixed-term or secondment position for 7 months.

Essential criteria

  • Good honours degree in Psychology (First or High 2:1 Class)
  • Eligibility for Graduate Membership of the BPS
  • Previous work as an Assistant Psychologist or extensive previous work within a health care or social care setting.
  • Previous work with children

Desirable criteria

  • Post-graduate Masters in a clinically relevant area e.g. Child development, behaviour, research skills.
  • Previous work within Paediatrics / Children with additional needs service

Job summary

We are seeking two Assistant Psychologists who are passionate about promoting the emotional health and well-being of children and young people with developmental delay or disability and their families. These posts will be part of the Children with Additional Needs (CAN DWR) and the Intensive Positive Behavioural Support (iPBS) teams. The teams work to promote emotional wellbeing and development in children with developmental delay and learning disabilities, their families and systems of support. The postholders will work alongside multi-disciplinary teams and will make close links with colleagues within the children's centres, education, social care and the third sector. The postholders will support outreach through developing and delivering workshops and toolkits and partnering with projects in the local community. The postholders will work alongside the Clinical Psychologist to run groups and provide psychological support to young people, families and their systems of support.

The postholders will have a passion for working with children and young people with developmental delay and a strong values base that links with an attachment informed positive behavioural support approach.
