Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Respiratory Nurse Specialist to join the Respiratory Outpatient Centre as a joint Deputy. You will play a key role in leading and managing outpatient services, supporting patients with chronic respiratory conditions. The role involves working autonomously and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, providing expert patient-centred respiratory care. Excellent communication skills are essential for enhancing patient experience and supporting service development. This position offers the chance to develop specialist skills and gain leadership and management experience.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage outpatient services for patients with chronic respiratory conditions.
- Work autonomously and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams within Respiratory Medicine and across wider specialities.
- Provide specialist respiratory advice, assessment, education and support to patients, their carers and other health care professionals.
- Supervise, mentor and support nursing staff and students, acting as a role model.
- Contribute to inter-professional team working and service development through evidence-based practice.
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
- Degree qualification or equivalent 120 credits at L6
- Post registration qualification within area of speciality or equivalent experience.
- Completion of all Band 5 (preceptorship) competencies
- Provide evidence of supporting/ managing a range of learners in practice
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Extensive post registration experience within specialist area.
- Knowledge of current issues within the acute health service.

- Registered on MSc Pathway - completion of HTPA Competencies
- Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
- Counselling qualification
- Palliative care course
- IT training
- Change Management, clinical practice development

Main duties of the job
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Respiratory Nurse Specialist to work in the Respiratory Outpatient Centre as a joint Deputy role.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled clinician with a focus on patient care and leadership skills to join our team delivering expert patient-centred respiratory care.
With the support of the Respiratory Centre Lead nurse, you will play a key role in leading and managing outpatient services, supporting patients with chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD, Asthma, Bronchiectasis and other complex respiratory disorders.
The successful candidate will work autonomously and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams within Respiratory Medicine and across wider specialities.
As a Respiratory Specialist Nurse within the Respiratory Centre you will be expected to have excellent communication skills, enhancing patient experience and supporting service development through evidence-based practice, education and clinical leadership in line with the Trust values.
