Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to join The Alnwick Ward at Alnwick Community Hospital, a bedded Care of the Elderly Ward. The role involves ensuring safe and high-quality patient care, acting as a role model, and supporting junior staff within a multidisciplinary team. You will coordinate the ward, assist the Ward Manager, and gain clinical and managerial experience. The successful candidate must demonstrate compassionate and inclusive leadership.
Key responsibilities
- Assist, plan and evaluate nursing care as a member of the multidisciplinary team under the supervision of the ward manager.
- Organize and co-ordinate nursing services in the absence of the ward manager, leading a team of nurses.
- Assume responsibility for the devolved management of a ward/department, including assessment and implementation of care in the absence of the Ward Manager.
- Supervise, support and educate junior members of the team.
- Provide senior nurse site management cover.
- Act as team leader and co-ordinate the multi-disciplinary care of a group of patients.
Essential criteria
- First level live NMC Registered Nurse or Registered Mental Nurse
- PP126/127 or AC631 or D32/33 or A1 or equivalent
- Mentorship Qualification or relevant equivalent qualification (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period)
- Previous post registration experience
- Experience of relevant speciality
- Experience of change management in ward/department area
- Evidence of practice development
- Experience of co-ordinating a team
Desirable criteria
- Diploma or degree in nursing
- Qualification in specialty
- Leadership course
- Management course
- Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
- Knowledge of or experience in quality improvement tools, techniques and methods

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen on The Alnwick Ward at Alnwick Community Hospital. We require a band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to join our team. The ward is an innovative and forward thinking, bedded Care of the Elderly Ward.
We are looking for candidates who have a commitment to ensuring safe and high-quality care is delivered to our patients, as well as being a role model and supporting our junior workforce. The ward has a strong focus on multidisciplinary team working, to ensure safe and timely patient discharges or transfers to appropriate care settings.
You will be expected to work as part of a dynamic nursing team, delivering all aspects of care to patients and have excellent communication skills. As part of this role you will be required to coordinate the ward and also support the Ward Manager. The successful candidate will gain a wide range of clinical and managerial experience. Previous experience in a similar setting is desirable, but not essential.
The successful post holder must be able to role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the Trust.
