Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Echocardiographer or Highly Specialist Clinical Physiologist specialising in Echocardiography. You will provide services across Aintree, Broadgreen, and Royal Hospitals, working within a busy and dynamic Cardiology department. The role involves performing and reporting echocardiograms independently, managing staff, and potentially undertaking advanced echo techniques. Applicants must be BSE accredited and have relevant qualifications, with a flexible working pattern expected.
Key responsibilities
- Perform echocardiograms autonomously on outpatients and inpatients to a high standard.
- Report complex clinical data obtained by echocardiography in a timely manner and produce accurate reports to BSE standards.
- Successfully line manage staff within your team with the assistance of the department manager.
- Become compliant in advanced echocardiographic techniques including TOE, Bubble, Contrast and stress echocardiography.
- Liaise with Lead Clinical Physiologist to maintain appropriate level of resources and ensure the safe use of all equipment.
Essential criteria
- Undergraduate honours degree [1st or 2.1 class] in cardiac physiology or a relevant scientific subject
- PG cert in Echocardiography or Clinical Physiology Degree
- BSE accreditation
- Will obtain RCCP accreditation as soon as possible
- Able to work autonomously performing and reporting echocardiograms
- Has an understanding of the role of an Echocardiographer in healthcare and disease and its application in a healthcare setting.
- Ability to work autonomously in the planning and execution of their own work and under the guidance of their Departmental Supervisors.
- Knowledge acquired through study and experience to formulate appropriate advice and judgements, including clinical judgements involving facts or situations that impact on patients.
- Good understanding of ethics and professional practice, the NHS constitution and the importance of patient-centred care.
- Highly developed co-ordination skills with good dexterity and hand-eye co-ordination and those skills required for the performance of fine analytical techniques.
- Good IT skills and knowledge of common computing packages for word processing, spreadsheets, presentation packages and databases.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both writing and speaking in English language
- Effective team worker
- Good active listening skills to build rapport with the listener to encourage an open discussion.

- Has experience in advanced echo techniques I.e TOE, Stress etc

Main duties of the job
We are busy and dynamic department providing Cardiology services to Liverpool and the surrounding regions.
- To provide Echocardiography to inpatients and outpatients
- To perform Echocardiography independent to BSE dataset guidelines
- To report and analyse Echo results in line with BSE guidance
- To successfully line manage staff within your team with the assistance of the department manager
