Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic and organised Healthcare Support Worker to join the Diabetes Nursing team. The main duties involve assisting with outpatient diabetes clinics, preparing clinic settings, performing patient observations, and liaising with administrative staff. You will also be responsible for ensuring smooth clinic operations and communicating effectively with patients and the multi-disciplinary team. The role includes measuring and documenting basic observations, assisting with foot checks, and coordinating phlebotomy services.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare clinic settings and ensure smooth running of outpatient clinics.
- Perform observations (blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight) prior to patient consultations.
- Assist patients and carry out foot checks in foot clinics, documenting accurately.
- Coordinate the phlebotomy service for people with diabetes attending clinics.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with patients and the multi-disciplinary team.
- Work under the supervision and/or direction of the registered nursing team.
Essential criteria
- Wilingness to work towards NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Healthcare or currently studying
- Interest in personal and professional development
- Experience of working closely with the Diabetes team at DCH
- Experience and interest in Diabetes
- Evidence of good communication
- Demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality
- Evidence of ability to maintain accurate and legible documentation
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Evidence of ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients and visitors
- Ability to demonstrate a good standard of IT skills
Desirable criteria
- Ability to work autonomously or with minimal supervision
- Must be able to perform manual blood pressures or willing to learn
- Ability to initiate emergency care in the Diabetes Centre should to need arise, specifically BLS and hypo management.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and organised Healthcare support Worker to join the Diabetes Nursing team.
This role is mainly focused around assisting the team with the out patient diabetes clinics. Duties would involve preparation of the clinic setting; performing observations prior to the patient seeing the nurse or doctor; preparation of the patient prior to clinics and liaising with the administrative team.
