Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join the Speech and Language Therapy Service at SCYPS Newham. The role involves supporting qualified therapists, delivering therapy groups and workshops, and independently running intervention programmes in community settings. You will work with children who have communication difficulties, including those who are Autistic and have complex needs. The position requires excellent interpersonal skills and flexibility.
Key responsibilities
- Work under the direction of qualified speech and language therapists.
- Carry an independent caseload, delivering treatment programmes devised by clinicians.
- Work closely with clients to carry out therapy techniques and treatments, providing detailed observations and feedback.
- Research, plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate groups and individual therapy for clients aged 0-18 years.
- Make/develop and demonstrate resources that support therapy activities and training.
- Plan, organize, run, and evaluate training sessions and parent workshops.
Essential criteria
- GCSE or equivalent standard of education with emphasis on numeracy and literacy
- Previous experience of working within a speech therapy assistant role
- Experience of working with children and young people
- Experience of working within a team
- Experience of working in a busy environment in an orderly and professional manner
- Experience of working of working in a community setting
- Ability to organise and prioritise own workload
- Ability to work in a team
- IT literate and able to use Microsoft Windows/ excel/ power point software and use emails
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships and work flexibly as part of a team
- Ability to problem solve
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to adapt to changing environments/workloads
- oAble to travel around the Borough to different venues and settings

Our Speech and Language Therapy service works with children to support communication development and language enrichment, as well as eating drinking and swallowing difficulties. We work with children who have difficulties with communication, many of whom are Autistic and have multiple, complex needs.
The role includes:
Supporting the Speech and Language Therapists during assessment and intervention of children's communication skills
Delivering speech and language therapy groups, training for other professionals and parent workshops
Supporting the Speech and Language Therapy team with any administrative tasks such as making resources including communication books and visuals
Independently running therapy intervention programmes and training sessions in community settings or on virtual platforms
Supporting the delivery and expansion of the well-respected SLT service commissioned directly by education settings
