Role summary
This role is for an experienced and motivated Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join the Oncology Outpatients team. You will provide clinical leadership, support high-quality patient care, and manage a varied workload including admissions, assessments, and treatments. The position requires adaptability, resilience, and strong communication skills to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities
- Deputize for and support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
- Assess, plan and implement clinical care and maintain associated patient records.
- Safely attend to required nursing tasks in Outpatients, such as: Admissions, dressings, injections, referrals to relevant members of the MDT.
- Organize daily work schedule ensuring appropriate and effective skill mix and deployment of staff for appropriate patient needs.
- Report and record all accidents and complaints according to the agreed policy, investigating speedily and compassionately.
- Regularly liaise and report to senior nursing and service managers on unit affairs and staff development.
Essential criteria
- RGN Level 1
- Degree or Diploma in Nursing Studies
- Post Registration Certificate in Cancer/Acute care or equivalent level of experience
- Teaching & assessing certificate or equivalent
- At least 3 years post registration experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent IV skills
- Excellent assessment skills
- Ability to deliver a high quality of care
- Computer literacy
- Understanding of need for evidence based practice
- Committed to own personal professional development and that of all ward staff
- Team player
- Excellent attendance record
- Be proactive

Job summary
We are seeking an experienced, motivated and flexible Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our busy Oncology Outpatients team. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and support the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care across Main Outpatients, Proton Beam centre, Department 35 and Department 1 when required.
The role involves managing a varied workload including patient admissions, clinical assessments, wound and line dressings, injections, symptom management and other outpatient treatments and procedures. You will be confident in recognising and responding to deteriorating patients, managing emergency situations and escalating concerns promptly and appropriately.
We are looking for someone who is adaptable, resilient and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will support day-to-day service delivery, contribute to safe staffing and patient flow, and be willing to work across departments to meet service needs.
