Role summary
This is a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse position on the General Intensive Care Unit (GICU) at University Hospital Southampton. The role involves providing high standards of patient care, operational management of the unit, and clinical leadership. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and contribute to ongoing training and education. The position requires an experienced Band 6 Critical Care nurse looking to develop clinical management and leadership skills.
Key responsibilities
- Provide a high standard of individualised patient care.
- Receptive to change and committed to working collaboratively with the inter-professional team.
- Responsible for day-to-day operational management of the unit using the four pillars of Advanced Practice (Clinical Practice, Leadership and Management, Research, Education).
- Participate in the provision of clinical leadership, supervision, and structured teaching for the multidisciplinary team.
- Work flexibly as part of a 24/7 service, including day shifts, night shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.
Essential criteria
- 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register
- Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor
- Degree or working towards
- Completion of appropriate specialty Course
- Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice. ?Supporting a range of learners in practice ?Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Extensive experience in specialty to include considerable experience at Band 6 level
- Evidence of clinical leadership ability
- Proven management experience

Desirable criteria
- Management Course (or equivalent)
- Experience as an NMC sign off mentor or clinical practice assessor
- Evidence of staff development and succession planning
- Broad range of post registration experience
