Role summary
This is a permanent Staff Nurse position on a busy 27-bedded acute Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgical Ward. The role involves providing pre and post-operative care, managing patient admissions and discharges, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team. You will also be responsible for supporting student nurses within the clinical environment. The position requires working a rotation of night and day shifts.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers.
- Determine nursing priorities and plan patient care, informing the nurse in charge of any changes.
- Maintain nursing records in accordance with NMC and Trust Guidelines.
- Provide pre and post-operative care to patients.
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Support student nurses in the workplace.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse, current NMC registration
- BSc in Nursing (Diploma in Nursing as a minimum)
- Recent clinical nursing experience as a student or as a registered nurse
- Sound clinical nursing knowledge and a good understanding of nursing issues and clinical governance
- Demonstrates awareness of own limitations
- Ability to organise workload and delegate tasks appropriately
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to support less experienced staff
- Ability to problem solve
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Basic IT skills, including e-mail and word processing
- Supportive of colleagues
- Ability to work in changing environments
