Role summary
This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term Band 7 post for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist, Family Therapist, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Psychotherapist within the Intensive Treatment Programme (ITP) team. The role involves working with young people (11-18 years) and their families who have restrictive eating disorders, providing specialist psychological assessments, formulations, and interventions. The successful candidate will facilitate therapeutic groups, provide individual and family therapy sessions, and offer daily therapeutic meal support. The position requires a team player who is flexible and committed to developing excellent standards of care.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver specialist applied psychotherapeutic service within the MCCAED Intensive Treatment Programme (ITP day hospital).
- Provide clinical work including facilitation of therapeutic groups, and individual and family therapy sessions.
- Provide daily therapeutic meal support to young people, eating snacks and lunch alongside them.
- Provide specialist psychological assessments, formulations, and interventions for clients within the day programme (ITP) and a small caseload within the MCCAED outpatient team.
- Act as care coordinator, taking responsibility for initiating, planning, and reviewing care plans, and CPA co-ordination.
- Contribute to the effective working of MCCAED and to a psychotherapeutic framework for the service.
Essential criteria
- Entry-level qualification in applied psychological therapy and demonstrable practice in this field (professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level/supervised practice/additional training) that has been accepted for the purposes of professional registration. (A/I)
- Experience of assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature. (A/I)
- Significant post-qualification/graduation experience including experience of individual and group therapy with people with complex mental health needs.
- Experience of working with issues of risk and safety both physical and relational.
- Experience of working with, and addressing issues of, diversity, including experience of working within a multicultural framework.

- Theoretical knowledge of a wide range of psychopathology and the evidence base for relevant treatment. (A/I)
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues, child and adult protection, and equalities. (A/I)

- Knowledge of a range of a range of therapeutic ideas/approaches systemic models in assessment and treatment relevant to discipline (A/I)
- Knowledge of the potential physical risks associated with eating disorders (A/I)

- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to effective team functioning and holding team roles. (A/I)
