Role summary

This Healthcare Assistant role at The Village Surgery involves working under the supervision of practice nurses and GPs to deliver patient care. Duties include performing routine tasks such as new patient medicals, annual reviews, ECGs, venepuncture, and immunisations. Job summary

Working under the direct supervision of the practice

nurses and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and

protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in

the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main duties of the job

Duties and responsibilities:

To assist in and perform routine tasks related

to patient care, as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs. Duties to

include;

New

patient medicals

Annual

reviews

Urinalysis

ECGs

Peak

flow readings

Venepuncture

Blood

pressure measurements

Routine

immunisations, B12, Influenza, Pneumo, Shingles

Spirometry

Diabetic

Foot checks

Chaperoning

and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another

clinician

Requesting

basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs

Following

agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate

Smoking Cessation

Processing and management of laboratory

samples requested by GPs/nurses

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring

and recording

Surgical equipment and vaccine

re-stocking and stock rotation

Clearing and re-stocking consulting

rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments

and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.
