Role summary
An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated HCPC-registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Department of Clinical Microbiology at King's Mill Hospital. The role involves undertaking a broad range of bacteriological, serological, and molecular microbiology investigations to deliver accurate and timely diagnostic results. The successful candidate will identify and interpret clinically significant microorganisms and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, supporting clinicians in patient management. Applications are also welcome from HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientists working in diagnostic microbiology who are completing their IBMS Specialist Portfolio.
Essential criteria
- Relevant theoretical / practical / scientific knowledge to underpin the technical aspect of a laboratory service
- Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered as a Biomedical Scientist
- Scientist. IBMS Certificate of Competence Biomedical Science Degree (BSc) or equivalent acceptable by Health Professions Council
- Computer literacy skills
Desirable criteria
- European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
- Further Training
- Participates in Continued Professional Development (CPD)
- Significant specialist training in a Clinical Microbiology laboratory during which time sufficient knowledge has been acquired to demonstrate competence in the portfolio of specialist training
- Experience in Serology and Molecular techniques
- Contractual Requirements
- 37.5 hours per week
- 5 days out of 7
- Participation in the out-of-hours on call service

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Department of Clinical Microbiology at King's Mill Hospital for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and HCPC-registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our dedicated and professional team.
We are seeking a committed individual with a strong interest in clinical microbiology and a passion for delivering high-quality diagnostic services. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
You will undertake a broad range of bacteriological, serological and molecular microbiology investigations, contributing to the delivery of accurate, timely and clinically relevant diagnostic results. This will include the identification and interpretation of clinically significant microorganisms, as well as the interpretation of antimicrobial susceptibility testing, supporting clinicians in the effective management of patients with suspected or confirmed infection.
