Role summary
The Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) delivers expert clinical care, education, and holistic support to patients diagnosed with lung cancer. This role focuses on providing high-quality, patient-centred care, supporting individuals and their families throughout their cancer journey. The CNS coordinates complex care needs across the patient pathway, from diagnosis through treatment to survivorship or palliative care. Working collaboratively, the CNS acts as a key point of contact and specialist resource to ensure timely access to services and continuity of care.
Essential criteria
- Current NMC registration
- Demonstrates evidence of ongoing professional development
- Diploma/Degree in relevant area or evidence of study to that level
Desirable criteria
- Post registration training preferably in cancer/palliative care.
- Thorough up to date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice particularly within the specialty area
- Evidence of relevant clinical experience at Band 5 in Oncology or respiratory gained in the NHS
- Demonstrates knowledge of cancer pathways and targets

Job summary
The Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) plays a vital role within the multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Team, delivering expert clinical care, education, and holistic support to patients diagnosed with lung cancer.
