Role summary
This role is for an experienced Emergency Practitioner Team Lead to join the Emergency Departments at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. You will provide clinical and operational leadership, while maintaining your own clinical practice in autonomous assessment, diagnosis, and management of minor injuries and illnesses. The position involves workforce development, quality improvement, service innovation, and contributing to education and mentorship. It offers an opportunity to develop leadership skills within a large NHS Trust while remaining clinically active.
Essential criteria
- Nursing & Midwifery Council RegisteredNurse or HCPC Registered Paramedic orPhysiotherapist
- * Professional knowledge acquiredthrough degree supplemented byevidence of post graduate academiccourses, short course and developmentof clinical competencies in practiceevidenced in the following areas:
- o Minor Injury Management (Level6/7)
- o Consultation Skills
- o Physical Examination Skills
- o IRMER (Ionising Radiation Medical
- Exposure Regulation)
- o Interpretation of Images (Red Dotcourse)
- o Adult / Child Life Support Courses
- o PGD Training / practice aligned toTrust procedures
- o Minor Illness Management (Level6/7) or Non-Medical Prescriber withwillingness to undertake the postgraduate element not completed
- * Plus further specialist training to masters equivalent level.
- Considerable experience working as aBand 7 (or equivalent) EmergencyPractitioner in autonomous assessmentof minor injury and minor illness.
- * Demonstrable ability / experience inworking in a multi professional approachto health care delivery and candemonstrate appreciation forcomplexities of patient access to primary/secondary and voluntary care settings.

Job summary
Join our Emergency Practitioner Team and help shape the future of Emergency Practitioner services
across the Emergency Departments at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. We
are seeking an experienced Emergency Practitioner Team Lead who is a Registered Adult Nurse
Emergency Practitioner, Paediatric Emergency Practitioner or Paramedic Emergency Practitioner
with experience in the autonomous assessment, diagnosis and management of minor injuries and
minor illnesses, including Non-Medical Prescribing.
This is an exciting opportunity to combine clinical practice with leadership, education, governance
and service development. Working primarily at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital or Good Hope
Hospital, with ad hoc support to Solihull Urgent Treatment Centre, you will provide clinical and
operational leadership while maintaining your own clinical practice.
You will play a key role in workforce development, quality improvement, service innovation and the
continued development of Emergency Practitioner services. You will influence clinical pathways, lead
improvement initiatives and contribute to the education, mentorship and supervision of Emergency
Practitioners and other staff.
