Role summary
This role is for a motivated Research Nurse or Clinical Trials Coordinator to join the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Heart and Lung Research Institute (VPD-HLRI) Clinical Research Facility (CRF). You will play a key role in delivering the POSITION study, focusing on respiratory disease research. Responsibilities include identifying, recruiting, consenting, and supporting research participants, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred research delivery. The position involves coordinating study activities, conducting participant visits, obtaining informed consent, and collecting research data, working within a multidisciplinary team across the Heart and Lung Research Institute and Royal Papworth Hospital.
Essential criteria
- Professional adult nursing qualification and clinical knowledge acquired through training to diploma or degree level.
- PLUS post graduate learning or experience relevant to practice with demonstrable competence OR specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge or relevant practical experience.
- Leadership/management training and/or experience.
- Registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- Significant experience in field of own practice.
- Experience of managing or supervising staff and ability to mentor/educate junior staff.
- An understanding of clinical governance frameworks including Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), policy and procedure, audit and quality assurance.
- An understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures, particularly those related to vulnerable patients.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be able to problem solve, use own initiative and plan, organise and prioritise own and others' workload.
- Evidence of continuous professional development and a willingness to participate in further training and education.
- Competent IT skills.

Job summary
We are seeking a motivated, proactive, and self-directed Research Nurse or Clinical Trials Coordinator to join the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Heart and Lung Research Institute (VPD-HLRI) Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and play a key role in delivering the POSITION study, part of the CG-TIC programme.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative clinical research that aims to advance our understanding of respiratory disease while supporting the development of future healthcare interventions. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, recruiting, consenting, and supporting research participants, helping to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality, patient-centred research.
Based within the VPD-HLRI Clinical Research Facility, you will work across both the Heart and Lung Research Institute and Royal Papworth Hospital as part of a multidisciplinary research team. You will be involved in all aspects of study delivery, from participant recruitment and trial coordination through to data collection and study close-out.
