Role summary
This role involves working as a Clinical Coder, abstracting information from patient notes and assigning appropriate codes to the Trust's patient administration system, adhering to National standards. Essential criteria
- oA good level of education, Minimum GCSE or equivalent C and above in English, Maths and Science. oNCCQ(UK) oCompletion of appropriate clinical coding courses, including up to date with refresher training.
Desirable criteria
- oEducated to undergraduate degree level. oQualified clinical coding auditor/trainer.
- oAt least two years Clinical Coding experience. Experience analysing and appropriately coding complex clinical information across a wide range of clinical specialities. oPrevious employment in an acute NHS Trust.
- oExperience with EPR systems oExperience with 3M Medicode. oExperience coding all specialties including Neurosurgery, T&O and obstetrics.
- oThorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology terms in relation to clinical coding. oComprehensive knowledge/understanding of health records and hospital procedures.
- oKnowledge of mortality quality indicators.
- oAbility to use clinical coding knowledge to communicate complex coding rules to clinical and non-clinical staff. oAbility to analyse and interpret complex data. Ability to work to deadline whilst maintaining high quality. oAbility to work in partnership with others to deliver deadline targets. oAbility to motivate others. Good level of competence in Windows-based applications

Job summary
To undertake the role of a Clinical Coder to clinical groups or specialties as appropriate, abstracting from patient notes and other information sources and assigning suitable codes onto the Trust's patient administration system in line with National standards. Attend training sessions as necessary and work to maintain allocated reference manuals and standards manuals so that they are always up to date with national guidance.
