Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Band 6 Sister/Team Lead to join the Trauma & Orthopaedics Outpatients Department. The role involves day-to-day management and nursing care within the clinical specialty, supporting the T&O team, and ensuring high standards of patient care. The successful candidate will provide expert clinical and managerial advice, working across Russells Hall Hospital and Corbett's Hospital, primarily Monday-Friday with occasional weekend/evening clinics. This position offers a chance to develop leadership skills and expand knowledge in Orthopaedics, including elective, trauma, and virtual fracture clinics.
Key responsibilities
- Take responsibility for all aspects of day-to-day management and nursing care within own clinical specialty.
- Support the Trauma and Orthopaedic Team, including monitoring virtual fracture clinics.
- Assist the departmental Lead Nurse in managing the T&O Outpatients Department.
- Set standards of care in conjunction with the Trauma and Orthopaedics Directorate.
- Provide expert clinical and managerial advice and support to staff and patients.
- Deputise for the Lead Nurse as required.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Teaching/mentoring qualification
- Degree level study
- Recognised Management and/or leadership course
- Evidence of professional development
- Clinically competent in the performance of relevant clinical task such as venepuncture, ECG or willing to undertake training to acquire the skill
- Ability to undertake clinical skills within this speciality and demonstrate some advanced skills or be willing to undertake required training
- Knowledge of trust protocols, policy and procedures
- Knowledge of Health and Safety in the workplace
- Knowledge of current and future developments in the NHS
- Effective communication skills, demonstrating good standard of verbal and written communication, including legible handwriting
- Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team
- Demonstrates enthusiasm and a conscientious approach to work, advocating this to others
- Displays self-confidence, innovation and a positive image
- Demonstrates ability to work effectively as part of multi- disciplinary team

- Proven experience in an outpatient environment as a Band 5 Staff nurse or above
- Experience in basic casting techniques and be willing to complete internal plaster technique competencies or to gain nationally recognised plaster casting qualification
- Worked as part of a MDT within acute NHS environment
- Experience working in Virtual Fracture Clinic
- Computer literate

Shift Lead/ Sister (Band 6) 7.5 hours per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic experienced member of staff to join the Trauma & Orthopaedics outpatients team, working between both Russells Hall Hospital and Corbett's Hospital. The service runs Monday- Friday (08:30-18:00) with additional weekend and evening clinics running occasionally.
This is a great opportunity to gain knowledge or build on your current knowledge and experience in Orthopaedics. You will be working in both elective orthopaedic, trauma orthopaedic as well as virtual fracture clinics.
If you are ready for a challenge and can demonstrate excellent leadership skills then this is the position for you.
Main duties of the job
