Role summary
This role supports the Colorectal and Stoma Care Specialist team in delivering nursing care to patients on the Colorectal Cancer Pathway, from pre-diagnosis to end-of-life. The post holder will also assist with inpatient stoma care services for patients with stomas due to benign or malignant conditions. Responsibilities include patient assessment, care plan review, clinical administration, and conducting electronic Holistic Needs Assessments. The role involves working autonomously and as part of a team, providing stoma care education and support, and participating in audit and reporting.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Colorectal and Stoma Care Specialist team in delivering nursing care.
- Contribute to patient assessment and independently create and review care plans.
- Provide support with clinical administration, including expediting results and distributing information.
- Carry out electronic Holistic Needs Assessments (eHNA's) with patients.
- Provide inpatient stoma care to patients with colostomy, ileostomy, urostomy or nephrostomy.
- Participate in audit and contribute to monthly and annual reports.
Essential criteria
- GCSE English and Maths
- NVQ 2/3 in Health Care
- Evidence of significant knowledge and experience working with colorectal cancer patients
- Evidence of working to a schedule under direct supervision
- Willingness to undertake learning and development relevant to role
- Experience of working as part of a Multidisciplinary team
- Evidence of providing direct stoma care for patients
- Excellent communication skills written and verbal
- Excellent organisation skills and ability to prioritise workload
- Basic IT skills
- Tactful and diplomatic with the ability to sensitively ask for information needed
Desirable criteria
- Recognised Stoma Care qualification NVQ 2 or equivalent
- Sage and Thyme communication skills training
- Enhanced communication skills training
- Evidence of working autonomously
- Evidence of participating in audits
- Evidence of completing monthly or yearly reports
- Ability to retrieve information form a wide range of sources
- Ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure

Job summary
