Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join a rotational programme at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The role involves diverse acute and community placements, including a Stroke Unit, rehabilitation, and long-term conditions services. You will manage a complex caseload, assess and treat patients, and contribute to discharge planning. The position offers career development within a supportive team focused on high-quality patient care.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a designated caseload with complex needs using evidence-based principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate.
- Maintain records which fulfil legal requirements.
- Regularly supervise O.T. students on practice placements.
- Provide leadership for junior/support staff through supervision and appraisal.
- Participate in a rotational scheme across various specialties including Stroke Unit, Acute Medicine, and Community Rehabilitation.
- Assess and provide treatment for functional abilities, including equipment provision and home visits.
Essential criteria
- oAt least 18 months post qualification experience
- oBroad based experience of Occupational Therapy treatment including work as a qualified OT in an NHS acute hospital
- oKnowledge and experience of equipment provision and prescription.
- oBroad experience of treatment options and approached
- oAdvanced clinical reasoning skills.
- oExperience in complex moving and handling.
- oExperience in assessment and discharge planning within a fast paced environment.
- oBroad experience in standardised assessment.
- oBroad experience in assessment of and treatment of cognitive deficits.
- oKnowledge of wheelchair assessment and provision
- oExperience of supervising / teaching other staff
- oGood verbal communication skills in the English language
- oAbility to communicate clearly with other disciplines
- oAbility to keep clear, precise records in the English language, which meet legal requirements
- oClear, concise report writing
- oA clear understanding of clinical governance and its implications on OT
- oAbility to plan, prioritise and manage a caseload
- oAble to work autonomously and to manage time effectively
- oBroad understanding of current issues surrounding healthcare provision in London
- oKnowledge of Support services in community
- oDiploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy
