Role summary
This role is for an Estates Officer Mechanical Operations to join the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. The postholder will be responsible for the specialist service of various systems like water quality, steam, ventilation, and medical gases within the hospital buildings and grounds. The role involves ensuring compliance with statutory and mandatory legislation, and Department of Health guidance, to maintain a safe and efficient environment for patients, staff, and visitors. It also includes developing departmental policies to ensure compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Responsible for the specialist service of systems such as water quality, steam, ventilation, BMS, and medical gases within hospital buildings and grounds.
- Provide management and assurance on all aspects of compliance within the Estates and Facilities Directorate.
- Ensure patient, staff, and visitor environments are safe, secure, and compliant with legislation and guidance.
- Carry out duties to optimise efficiency, effectiveness, and patient experience of the Estate.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, HSE regulations, codes of practice, technical guidance, and Trust policies.
- Develop policies for the department to ensure compliance with all guidance.
Essential criteria
- Degree level qualification in mechanical engineering or equivalent qualification and level of knowledge acquired through equivalent experience
- A willingness and ability to undertake further study to gain additional authorising experience/qualifications.
- Specialist training in NHS Estates related subjects
- Evidence of CPD
- Authorised Person for Piped Medical Gas System
- Authorised Person for water systems
- Authorised Person for Ventilation Systems
- Management Diploma (ILM) or equivalent
- Current valid driving license to drive 4 wheel vehicles including cars / vans
- Computer programmes including 'Microsoft Office Suite' and other Estates related software
- Have relevant estate/facilities experience
- Sound understanding of Health & Safety legislation
- Preparation of technical reports and specifications
Desirable criteria
- Confined spaces training
- Relevant Health & Safety qualification
- Construct ion (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM)
