Role summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Outpatient Physiotherapy Team as a Musculoskeletal Specialist First Contact Practitioner (FCP). You will deliver services within Primary Care, including specialist assessment, advice, and direct clinical caseload management. The role involves leading service development, evaluation, student training, and staff appraisal, while managing a caseload of patients. You will receive support from a Consultant Physiotherapist and an FCP Clinical Lead to achieve roadmap completion.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver services within Primary Care to PCN's as First Contact Practitioners on behalf of Cambridge University Hospital Physiotherapy Outpatient Department.
  • Perform highly specialist physiotherapeutic assessment and analysis of medical investigations of patients presenting with musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Act as a source of expertise on the physiotherapeutic management of Musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Maintain up to date FCP accreditation and actively participate in regular FCP governance.
  • Lead in service development and evaluation, student training and staff appraisal, as well as manage a caseload of patients.

Essential criteria

  • Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC
  • Evidence of relevant post-graduate courses / CPD
  • Evidence of MSc level qualification / working towards / completion of single modules
  • Significant postgraduate experience
  • Relevant clinical work at senior level providing a broad range of experience
  • Experience of working as part of an MDT
  • Contributing to clinical education of less experienced staff or students or assistants
  • Musculoskeletal Outpatient experience, including experience of managing a GP / self-referred cohort of patients
  • Good knowledge of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy
  • Self-directed learning
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to pass on skills / knowledge to others within both formal and informal environments
  • Ability to manage own caseload
  • Experience of NHS IT systems
  • Able to communicate with patients with impaired communication abilities
  • Able to demonstrate empathy, motivate and persuade patients with impaired cognitive abilities or physical senses
  • Able to work collaboratively within primary care
  • Able to maintain judgement under pressure
  • The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Safe, Kind, Excellent.

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Outpatient Physiotherapy Team in CUH as a Musculoskeletal Specialist First Contact Practitioner (FCP). We already have an established team of FCPs working across Cambridge who receive support from our service by a Consultant Physiotherapist and an FCP Clinical Lead to provide supervision and support to gain roadmap completion.

The role will be part of delivering services on behalf of our Trust within Primary Care, including specialist assessment and advice, direct clinical caseload management and Outreach Clinics.

You will have proven knowledge and skills in the management of Musculoskeletal Therapy and be expected to lead in service development and evaluation, student training and staff appraisal, as well as manage a caseload of patients.

The team is friendly and dedicated towards the delivery of an excellent service for all our users, as well as constantly looking at better ways to provide a service. We also have access to well-equipped gym areas and hydrotherapy facilities.

Opportunities for secondment / fixed term contracts may be considered.
