Role summary
This role involves joining the trauma and orthopaedic team at Glangwilli General Hospital to support occupational therapists in rehabilitating patients for discharge. You will assist with assessments and interventions, potentially including outreach to patients' homes. The position also requires supporting team operations, handling enquiries, and undertaking administrative tasks like data entry and audits. You will work collaboratively with health, local authority, and third-sector colleagues.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver occupational therapy services in various settings, including homes, community, and hospitals, following agreed guidelines.
- Provide service to a designated client group, undertaking specific assessments and interventions independently as delegated by an occupational therapist.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues from Health, Local Authorities, and Third Sector Organisations to achieve best patient outcomes.
- Support team operations, dealing with enquiries and undertaking administrative tasks relevant to the role.
- Travel within Carmarthenshire as required.
- Be prepared for a flexible 7-day service based on service need.
Essential criteria
- Evidence of Level 3 qualification relevant to workplace OR other equivalent training, qualifications or experience
- Level 4 experience with a willingness to complete relevant Level 4 qualification within a specified timescale after successful appointment
- I.T skills with good knowledge and application of Microsoft Office applications
- Numeracy and literacy to at least level 2 (GCSE level grade C or above)
- Good knowledge of Occupational Therapy through acquired experience and/or training
- Working knowledge of therapeutic equipment
- Knowledge of the roles of other staff groups in health and social care
- Broad range of experience of working within a therapy service or other relevant field. This may include voluntary as well as paid experience
- Working with a variety of people with differing needs

- Managing own time and prioritising activities

- Use of adapted techniques for improving patient independence
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of role related CPD activities
- Trusted Assessor training in equipment and adaptations

- Knowledge of relevant outcome measures to demonstrate effectiveness of interventions
- Knowledge of Health Board and priorities and practices
- Knowledge of a range of rehabilitation interventions across all therapies
- Experience of working with groups
- Experience of working in a community setting
- Supervision of staff
- Experience of using Motivational interviewing or solutions focused interventions
- Experience of coping independently with distressing or emotional situations in challenging work environments
- Experience of using virtual communication platforms, i.e. Skype, Teams, Zoom

Job summary
We are seeking to recruit someone to join our trauma and orthopaedic team in Glangwilli General Hospital, Carmarthen. You will have knowledge in occupational therapy and work as part of a designated team to deliver an occupational therapy service.
Your role will be to support the occupational therapist to deliver what matters to the patient, to enable them to be rehabilitated and discharged home from hospital. You may also at times be required to outreach to peoples homes, when appropriate to support discharge.
