Role summary
This role is for an experienced and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join the team at Hopewood Hospital in Sherwood, Nottingham. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality Occupational Therapy services to young people with complex mental health needs, working autonomously within a multi-disciplinary team. Key responsibilities include supporting sensory needs, ADLs, and conducting 1:1 and group work. The role is based on Hercules Ward, an 8-bedded psychiatric intensive care unit.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver a high-quality Occupational Therapy service to meet the complex needs of young people.
- Work autonomously, applying relevant transferable skills and experience.
- Offer core aspects of treatment including support with sensory needs, ADLs, 1:1 and group work.
- Be a core member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
Essential criteria
- Working in line with safeguarding processes and procedures
- Experience of working as an occupational therapist in the community and/or in patient settings with learning disabilities and/or mental health.
- Applying evidence based practice to your assessment and treatment.
- Experience of managing own caseload.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary/multi-agency team.
- Experience of using standardized and evidence based assessments.
- Understanding of MOHO.
- Presenting and delivering training.
- oUndertaking dynamic and formal risk assessments.
- Effective communication skills both verbal, written and electronic.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Able to complete documentation to high standard
- Good clinical reasoning skills and effective decision making.
- Leadership skills.
- Flexible and innovative.
- Motivated and also able to motivate others.
- Team member but also able to work as an autonomous practitioner.
- Proficient skills in Occupational Therapy screening, assessment, formulation planning, intervention and evaluation skills and timely discharge.
- Clinical report writing.

- Able to undertake training in the Prevention & Management of Violence & Aggression (PMVA)
- Has the physical ability to perform a full range of occupational therapy duties
- BSc or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
- Post qualification training relevant to post to Diploma level or equivalent
- Registration with Health Care Professions Council
- CPD portfolio
- Experience of supervision of junior staff
- Interest and motivation to work with young people with a range of Mental Health and Emotional needs.
- Working knowledge of trauma informed care.
- Working knowledge of how a range of mental health needs can impact functioning.
- National drivers guiding practice in field of Mental health.
- Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.

Job summary
Hopewood Hospital in Sherwood, Nottingham has 32 beds across 3 wards and is based on site with an education facility for our inpatients, a CAMHS community base with specialist teams and both inpatient and community perinatal teams.
Hercules Ward is an 8 bedded psychiatric intensive care unit. We work with young people experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties and increased risk profiles. We work closely with families and a full MDT to ensure positive outcomes for young people.
Please note that this post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled worker visa.
Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.
